Michigan Court Rules — Chapter 3: Special Proceedings and Actions

169 rules across 10 subchapters · Cited as MCR 3.206

Garnishment, divorce, custody, personal protection orders, adoption, and every child protective and delinquency proceeding in Michigan run under Chapter 3 — not under the civil rules at Chapter 2. The Michigan Court Rules are one continuously numbered body, so MCR 3.206 and MCR 2.116 sit in the same rulebook, but Chapter 3 supplies the procedures the civil rules never needed: a friend of the court enforcement scheme, a domestic violence screening protocol, an ex parte order that expires on its own terms, and a juvenile code with seventy-five rules of its own. Chapter 3 also says which civil rules still apply, and when.

Chapter 3 is one chapter of the single, continuously numbered Michigan Court Rules, so every rule number carries its chapter prefix (3.001 through 3.993) and the numbering leaves gaps for rules added later. Every rule listed below is in force; this chapter contains no repealed or reserved rules.
