Privacy Policy

RulesofCivilProcedure.com is a static, informational website. We have designed it to collect as little personal information as possible, and this policy explains what that means in practice, including how our use of Google Analytics works and what will change if we begin displaying advertising in the future.

Overview

We do not require an account to use this site, we do not ask you for personal information to read anything here, and we do not knowingly collect names, mailing addresses, or similarly sensitive personal details unless you choose to send them to us (for example, by emailing us a question). This policy describes the technical and usage data collected automatically through Google Analytics, who processes it, what would change if we begin displaying advertising, and the choices available to you.

Information we collect

Information you provide directly

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever else you choose to include in that message. We use it only to respond to you and to improve the site, and we do not add it to any mailing list or share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, this site automatically receives certain technical information when you visit — for example, your approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you view, how long you spend on them, and the site or search engine that referred you. This information is collected through Google Analytics.

Cookies and Google Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how visitors use the site so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects standard usage data — such as the pages you visit, time on page, approximate location derived from your IP address, and device and browser type — in aggregated, non-identifying form. We do not use this information to identify individual visitors, and we do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes. Google's own use of the data it collects through Google Analytics is governed by Google's Privacy Policy, not by this one.

This site displays third-party advertising, which uses cookies. We run non-intrusive advertising through Mediavine. Mediavine and its advertising partners use cookies or similar technology to serve and measure ads based on your visits to this and other sites across the web. We do not receive or store the personal information those partners collect. You can review Mediavine's Privacy Policy, and the choices below apply to advertising cookies as well as to Google Analytics.

Your choices and opt-outs

• Browser controls. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies entirely, or block third-party cookies specifically, through their own settings, without preventing you from reading anything on this site.
• Google Analytics opt-out. Google provides a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites that use it.
• Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control. Some browsers and extensions send a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal. There is no single accepted standard for how websites must respond to these signals, and this site does not currently change its behavior automatically in response to them.

California and other U.S. state privacy rights

Residents of California and a growing number of other states have specific statutory rights over their personal information under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (together, the CCPA), and comparable laws in other states. Depending on where you live, these rights can include the right to know what personal information has been collected about you, to request deletion or correction of it, to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.

We do not sell or share personal information. If we begin displaying advertising in the future using cookies for ad personalization, that could fall within some states' broader definition of “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we will update this policy, along with the opt-out tools available to you, before that happens. If you would like to exercise any privacy right available to you under applicable law today — including asking us what information we hold about you or asking that any information you have voluntarily sent us be deleted — email contact@rulesofcivilprocedure.com and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.

Hosting, security, and server logs

This site is served as static files through a third-party hosting and content-delivery network. Like virtually all websites, that provider automatically processes standard technical information — such as IP addresses, browser type, and request logs — to deliver the site securely and reliably, and that processing is governed by the provider's own privacy terms. We take reasonable measures to protect the limited information we do handle directly (such as email correspondence), but no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data retention

Aggregated analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' own default retention settings for this type of data. Emails you send us are kept as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your inquiry and to maintain a record of corrections or complaints, and are deleted or anonymized when no longer needed for those purposes.

International visitors

This site is operated from, and primarily intended for, an audience in the United States, and it describes United States law. If you access the site from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers, including Google, operate. By using the site, you understand that your information may be processed in a country that may have different data-protection rules than your own.

Children's privacy

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site, its advertising arrangements, or applicable law evolve. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be reflected here directly; your continued use of the site after a change is posted means you accept the updated policy.
