Exequatur is the process that turns a judgment from somewhere else into a judgment that can be enforced here.
Rule 55.1 defines it and says it can be contested or uncontested. Rule 55.2 sets out the two ways to start — a complaint or a sworn ex parte petition. Rule 55.3 lists the documents that must accompany either one. Rule 55.4 adds notice to public officers in three situations. Rule 55.5 is the heart: the requirements a foreign judgment must meet, with a shorter list for judgments from the United States and a longer one for everywhere else. Rule 55.6 says a recognized judgment is enforced like a local one.
El exequátur es el proceso que convierte una sentencia de otro lugar en una sentencia ejecutable aquí.
