Plain-English Summary
UTCR 5.110 asks nothing of anyone. It exists so that a lawyer paging through the trial court rules for class action procedure does not conclude there is none. The rules are elsewhere: ORCP 32 in the Oregon Rules of Civil Procedure, and ORAP 12.15 in the Oregon Rules of Appellate Procedure.
The pointer matters because these bodies of rules come from different places. The Uniform Trial Court Rules are promulgated by order of the Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court and govern practice in the circuit courts. The civil procedure rules and the appellate rules are separate rulesets with their own numbering and their own history. A citation to ORCP 32 is not a citation to anything in this chapter, and nothing in this chapter changes what ORCP 32 requires.
Everything else in this chapter still applies to a class action filed in an Oregon circuit court. UTCR 5.110 redirects a reader on one subject. It does not lift class actions out of the rules on conferring before filing motions, briefing schedules, proposed judgments, or sealed documents.
