Plain-English Summary

Section 25-3101 is the naming section for a seven-section act. Sections 25-3101 to 25-3107 may be cited as the Structured Settlements Transfers Protection Act. That short title is what shows up in later cross-references, court filings, and the rest of Chapter 25 whenever the Legislature or a court needs to point to this body of rules as a whole.

The Act governs what has to happen before someone who receives structured settlement payments — periodic payments from a personal injury or sickness settlement — can sell or otherwise transfer the right to receive those payments to someone else, typically a factoring company offering a lump sum in exchange. The substantive protections appear in the sections that follow; this section only supplies the name.
