Official Notes

NOTE: This section is shown as amended eff. 11-1-26 by 2025 Wis. Act 179. Prior to 11-1-26 it reads: 814.72 Fees of appraisers. For appraisals under s. 815.19, each appraiser shall collect a fee of $8, plus $10 per hour. The fee shall be paid by the officer and returned as a disbursement on the writ of attachment or execution.

Plain-English Summary

An appraiser doing an appraisal under s. 815.19 — valuing property tied to an attachment or execution proceeding — charges a base fee plus an hourly rate. Currently that’s $8 plus $10 per hour; on November 1, 2026, it rises to $28 plus $35 per hour, under 2025 Wisconsin Act 179.

The officer handling the underlying writ pays the appraiser directly, then recovers that cost as a disbursement charged against the writ of attachment or execution. That structure means the appraisal cost ultimately flows through to whoever ends up bearing the costs of the attachment or execution proceeding, rather than being paid out of pocket by the officer permanently.

This is a short section with only two moving parts: the flat base fee and the hourly add-on. Both are increasing on the same November 1, 2026 date as most of chapter 814’s other fee provisions.
