Full Text of § 92

Text size

Amendment History

R.L. 1910, § 4654.

Plain-English Summary

This is the article's baseline rule: a civil action can only be commenced within the periods the following sections prescribe, counted from when the cause of action accrues. But Section 92 also builds in an escape hatch — where some other statute sets a different limitation for a special kind of case, that special statute controls instead.

The actual time limits show up in the sections that follow: § 93 for recovering real property, § 95 for most other civil actions, with §§ 94 and 96 tolling those periods for people under a legal disability.
