Pick a deadline, enter the trigger date, and this tool applies Maryland's own time-computation rule — excluding the trigger day, and, for periods of more than 7 days, counting every calendar day and rolling only the terminal day off weekends and legal holidays; for periods of 7 days or less, skipping intermediate Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays entirely during the count itself. Maryland's Circuit Court and District Court use different terminology and different deadlines for the same procedural step — this tool keeps them as separate categories rather than one generic list.
Advanced: additional non-court days
This tool always applies Maryland's own current legal-holiday list under Gen. Prov. § 1-111 (New Year's, MLK Day, Lincoln's Birthday, Washington's Birthday, Maryland Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Defenders' Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, American Indian Heritage Day, and Christmas), with a fixed-date holiday landing on a Sunday shifted to the following Monday — but, confirmed from the statute's own text, NOT shifted to the preceding Friday when it lands on a Saturday, unlike the federal holiday statute. This field cannot include a statewide general election day (no fixed date) or a day the President or Governor separately proclaims — add either here as a comma-separated YYYY-MM-DD date if one falls in the relevant window.
What this tool does not compute
- County-level scheduling-order variation. Rule 2-504(a)(2) delegates the FORMAT of scheduling orders to each County Administrative Judge, and each Circuit Court runs its own Differentiated Case Management (DCM) plan under Rule 16-302 — discovery cutoffs, expert-disclosure dates, and dispositive-motion deadlines vary by county and must be read off the actual scheduling order in your case, not computed from a statewide rule.
- District Court small claims. Claims of $5,000 or less follow a simplified track (Rule 3-701 et seq.) that expressly prohibits discovery — the ordinary District Court discovery deadlines this tool computes do not apply there.
- Orphans' Court, juvenile, family law, and other specialized Titles outside Titles 2 and 3, each governed by its own rules.
- Removal to federal court. 28 U.S.C. § 1446 is federal law, identical regardless of which state a case started in — use this site's own Federal Deadline Calculator instead of a duplicate entry here.
