§ 1713.Title of Act

This chapter adopts a uniform law drafted for use across many states, and this section supplies the name that identifies it: the Uniform Foreign-Country Money Judgments Recognition Act. That title distinguishes it from the sister state registration scheme in Chapter 1, which governs judgments from other U.S. states rather than other countries, and from the older act this chapter replaced.

Calling it a “uniform” act signals its purpose: the same recognition standards, with only modest variations, apply in the other states that have enacted comparable legislation. That consistency matters because a judgment recognized under one state's version of the act is meant to be treated the same way a comparable judgment would be treated under another enacting state's version.
