Full Text of § 1448

Text size

Notwithstanding any other provision of law, all unclaimed money or other property belonging to any person who dies while confined in any state institution subject to the jurisdiction of the Youth Authority, which is paid or delivered to the State or any officer thereof under the provisions of Section 1015 of the Welfare and Institutions Code or under any amendment thereof adopted after the effective date of this section, shall be deemed to be paid or delivered for deposit in the State Treasury under the provisions of this article, and shall be transmitted, received, accounted for, and disposed of, as provided in this part.

Plain-English Summary

This section rounds out the set of institution-specific rules alongside Sections 1446 and 1447, this time covering the Youth Authority. When a person confined in a state institution under the Youth Authority's jurisdiction dies leaving unclaimed money or property, and that property is paid or delivered to the state under Welfare and Institutions Code Section 1015, or a later amendment of it, the payment is deemed made under this article.

The practical effect matches the other two institutional provisions: the money or property then moves through this part's standard rules for transmission, accounting, and disposition, rather than through any special process tied to the fact that the person died in a Youth Authority facility.
