§ 1430.Short Title - Oklahoma Citizens Participation Act

This is Oklahoma's anti-SLAPP law -- a statute designed to give people a fast way out of lawsuits filed to punish or chill their speech, petitioning, or association, rather than to recover for genuine harm. Section 1430 does two things: it gives the act its name, the Oklahoma Citizens Participation Act, and it states the balance the whole act is built around. On one side, it protects the constitutional rights to petition, speak freely, associate freely, and participate in government, to the fullest extent the law allows. On the other, it preserves a person's right to bring a lawsuit that has real merit and seeks recovery for a demonstrable injury.
