Rule 7.2.Documents Sealed Upon Filing.

Two lists, both automatic. The first names fourteen documents sealed the moment they are filed, whatever the case: the divorce, matrimonial and civil union action information forms, an income withholding notice or order, a parentage petition and the Hawaii parentage-action information, the confidential information sheet known as Form A, the attachment for additional children, birth, marriage and death certificates, DNA testing results, court-ordered professional evaluations, custody investigation and evaluation reports, guardian ad litem reports, and Kokua Kanawai reports. They stay sealed unless the court orders otherwise.

The second list seals whole files. Everything filed in an involuntary hospitalization or medication case, an assisted community treatment case, an adoption, or a guardianship of a minor is sealed on filing.

This rule carries unusual priority. Rule 1(c) says the Hawaii Electronic Filing and Service Rules prevail over these rules in a conflict, then makes one exception the other way: where Rule 7.2 conflicts with Rule 9 of the Hawaii Court Records Rules, Rule 7.2 wins. Sealing on filing in family court stays a family court decision.
