§ 1235.010.Generally

Chapter 2 exists to answer interpretive questions before they come up elsewhere in the title. Section 1235.010 sets the default: the preliminary provisions and rules of construction that follow govern how the whole Eminent Domain Law gets read.

That default isn't absolute. The opening clause -- unless the provision or context otherwise requires -- leaves room for a specific section to depart from a general construction rule when its own language or setting makes clear a different meaning was intended. In practice, though, the sections that follow in Article 1 (headings, references to amendments, defined terms like "shall" and "may," severability) and Article 2's word-and-phrase definitions apply throughout the title unless something specifically displaces them.
