Full Text of Rule 3.1000
Plain-English Summary
Rule 3.1000 opens Division 10's discovery rules with a purely formatting requirement, fixing how a growing stack of supplemental and further discovery paperwork has to look before getting into what any of it says. Every set of supplemental interrogatories, supplemental responses, amended answers to interrogatories, and further responses to interrogatories, inspection demands, or admission requests has to carry, in the first paragraph right below the case title, four pieces of information: who is propounding, demanding, or requesting; who is responding; which numbered set this is; and what kind of document it is. A case can generate several rounds of discovery over its life, and this caption lets anyone picking up the document know at a glance where it fits.
The second requirement keeps those rounds legible against each other. Each supplemental or further response, and each amended answer, has to carry the same number or letter and appear in the same order as the interrogatory, inspection demand, or admission request it answers. What it does not have to do is repeat the text of that original request, which keeps the documents shorter while still letting a reader line up a response against the request it responds to without hunting through separate documents.
Frequently Asked Questions

Does Rule 3.1000 apply to inspection demands and requests for admission, or only to interrogatories?
It applies to further responses to interrogatories, inspection demands, and admission requests, and separately to supplemental interrogatories, supplemental responses, and amended answers.
