Plain-English Summary

Mistakes in paperwork should not sink otherwise-valid service. This short rule allows the server to file an additional or amended proof of service within the time set by Rule 4:4-7, correcting or completing the record of what was done.

Beyond the server’s own correction, the court may allow process or the proof of service to be amended on terms it finds appropriate. The one limit is fairness: an amendment will not be permitted if it would materially prejudice the rights of the party against whom the process issued.
