Frequently Asked Questions

Can legal and equitable claims from different contracts be joined in Connecticut?

Yes. Section 10-24 allows a legal relief claim for breach of one contract to be joined with an equitable relief claim growing out of another contract.

Do the two contracts need to be related for the claims to be joined?

No. Section 10-24 states that the claims may be joined even though the underlying contracts in no way relate to each other.

How does this section relate to Section 10-21's rule on legal and equitable relief?

Section 10-21 already allows a complaint to include both legal and equitable causes of action, and Section 10-24 confirms this extends even to claims arising from entirely unrelated contracts.
