§ 995.810.Generally

This section is a scope statement rather than a substantive rule -- it tells the reader when the rest of Article 8 applies. Any bond executed to, in favor of, in the name of, or payable to the State of California or the people of the state falls within this article, and that reach explicitly includes official bonds, the bonds public officers give as a condition of holding office.

The sections that follow build on that scope: § 995.820 addresses when a court officer's bond runs to the state by default, § 995.830 fills the gap when a statute doesn't name a beneficiary at all, § 995.840 requires court approval for these bonds in actions or proceedings, and § 995.850 explains who can enforce liability on them.
