Text sizeJump to: (a) (b)

(a) This title applies only to a foreign-money claim in an action or distribution proceeding.
(b) This title applies to foreign-money issues even if other law under the conflict-of-laws rules of this state applies to other issues in the action or distribution proceeding.

Plain-English Summary

This section draws the boundary around the whole Act. It applies only to foreign-money claims — not to every issue in a case that happens to involve foreign money in some incidental way, and only within an action or distribution proceeding as § 676.1 defines those terms.

Within that boundary, though, the Act's reach doesn't bend to ordinary conflict-of-laws analysis. Even if another state's or country's substantive law governs other issues in the same case under California's conflict-of-laws rules, this title still controls how the foreign-money issues themselves get handled.
